Party on the Pond
Burlington, On (ContentDesk) May 7, 2006 -- The Foundation for Halton Child & Youth Services is pleased and very excited to announce their First Annual Party on the Pond fundraising event, taking place on June 17th, 2006.
Halton Child & Youth Services in Burlington, Ontario is a childrens/adolescents mental health centre that provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of children and families in difficulty.
Their overall mission is to enable children, youth and families to realize their full potential as members of our community; their mission in this event is to raise funds to implement a much needed summer program for the young residents of Aberdeen House. The Party on the Pond will take place at Barangas on the Beach, located on the scenic shores of Lake Ontario.
A full-course lobster dinner will begin the evening, with exciting giveaways and door prizes throughout the night.
The event really heats up when award-winning Newfoundland Folk/Roots recording artists Shanneyganock take their high-energy sound to the outdoor stage and kick off the summer for this one time show in Burlington.
Veterans of the festival scene across Canada and Kitchen Party headliners for the famous George Street Festival in St. Johns, Shanneyganock are sure to bring the house down.
Special Events Coordinator Marilyn Smith hopes that The Party on the Pond will be a successful step in creating a necessary annual curriculum for the residents.
We know that appropriate and enjoyable summer programming for the children can have a significant and positive impact on their sense of self-esteem and overall well-being.
In order to provide these types of programs, Aberdeen House must look to the community to assist with funding each year.
The money raised at this event will be used for fun activities like outdoor experiential programs and educational trips to places like the Ontario Science Centre.
But why a Newfoundland theme?
Steve Doherty, Manager of Residential Treatment Services at Halton Child and Youth Services, has family roots in Newfoundland and says simply, Newfoundland is a place that is widely known for its deep sense of community.
The innovative programs we run at Halton Child and Youth Services are very community oriented.
This event is very much a celebration of that.
Of course, the music is a big draw, too.
The music of Shanneyganock is the heart and soul of Newfoundland culture, and theres nothing like it in the world.
If youve never heard them before, youre in for an unforgettable night.
And probably very sore feet and a hoarse voice the next day! Tickets for this fundraising event are a well-spent $75 for both dinner and the show (separate event tickets are also available $25.00) and can be purchased by contacting Marilyn at Halton Child & Youth ServicesWe would like to thank the sponsors of the First Annual Party on the Pond:, The Burlington Lakeshore Rotary Club, CHML Radio, and the host for the event, Barangas on the Beach.
Mark off your calendar for June 17th, and join Shanneyganock for The Party on the Pond in support of The Foundation for Halton Child & Youth Services.

Children?s Birthday Party Planning: When and When Not to Have a Big Party
Age 1: Invite only family members and close friends only because this birthday is more for the parents than for the child. At age 1, a child doesn't understand the concept of "Birthday Party." He or she is getting a lot of attention---which is all a 1-year-old wants or understands anyway. You should not go overboard on presents because too much could scare or confuse a child. You should consider getting specialty items such as a plate that says "First Birthday," a 1-year-old candle, and possible a table cover that everyone could sign with fabric paint to have as keepsakes that can someday be shown (or given to) to your grown child. Age 2: 2-years-olds should have one or two playmates over for a small Birthday Play Day.
Again I suggest you keep a birthday plate and other keepsakes for your 2-year-old. Age 3: 3-year-olds should have three to four playmates over, and at this age you might have try a birthday game such as "Who can stack the blocks the highest?" I do not recommend...
